ROW80 Check-In 10/02/2013

Well back to the grindstone! Have started typing up the Christopher Lee interview for the book that lovely hubby and I are doing together. Have started (yesterday) on my Basics of Astrology book. So the writing part of my goals is going pretty well. I’m aiming for consistency of effort rather than huge word counts and hours at the keyboard. As long as I’m working towards my goals every day then it doesn’t matter too much how many (or how few) hours/words I do.

Have put my new numerology book on Amazon’s KDP. So the putting my work out there goal is doing well. Had a few problems with the cover which involved a great deal of swearing and intervention from lovely hubby but I think (!) its all fixed now. The book isn’t live yet and I won’t really be able to tell how it’s worked until it is.

The reading is progressing very slowly because I keep buying more books or borrowing more from the library which means although I’m reaing all the time my ‘to be read’ pile isn’t getting any smaller.

Still spending too much time on Facebook so no change there.

2013; Here I Come!

Ultimate Blog Challenge

To start off 2013 I have signed up for the Ultimate Blog Challenge.  The idea is to blog everyday for the month of January and it kick starts your blog into a new year.

Goals:  to try and stop fretting and worrying less and live more in the present.  This is an ongoing project.  I think I made a bit of progress last year but definitely not enough.

To read more, or at least to read some of the books I’ve been madly buying up and not getting around to reading yet.

I’m planning, rather ambitiously, to write four books this year!  Sounds horrendous I know, but they’re only going to be short books, of a maximum of about forty pages each.  I’m doing one on numerology now (that’s the occult power of numbers), and I have two short books about astrology planned as well.

Then the fourth book is going to be a collaberation with my lovely husband, who loathes all forms of publicity so I won’t mention his name.  He used to be a film journalist for a German film magazine and he interviewed amongst others, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Terence Fisher.  He self published a book himself years ago called The Films of Peter Cushing and I’ve been nagging him for ages to self publish it on Amazon.

He says its too short but then he told me he still had other interviews tucked away with various other Hammer Horror people, so I said that I could type up the interviews and collate it all for him and then I could publish it on Amazon for him under both our names and eventually he has agreed.  All he has to do is remember where he put all these interviews.  You know what it’s like when you put things somewhere safe!

I’m also doing background work on another novel; I’m not sure if I will actually start writing it this year, I might leave it until November and use it for NaNoWriMo, I haven’t decided yet.  I’m doing character sheets and fine tuning the plot at the moment.

Well I think that’s enough for now.  Let me know what you lot are up to because I’m nosy like that!

I won an award!

Ooh exciting!  For the second time I have been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award.  I’m not sure if my swelled head will fit through the doorway now!

So thank you Shah Wharton for nominating me!

Now for this you’re supposed to nominate fifteen other bloggers to receive the award but I’m going to cheat and nominate everyone who’s a member of the ROW80 writing group (excluding myself).  So if you’re a fellow ROWer, then congratulations you’ve won the Versatile Blogger Award!

Now I have to say seven things about me.  Hmmm.

1.  I’m a witch/shaman/practising occultist/astrologer/into all things mystical and magical.

2.  I did my degree in history and my dissertation was on George Armstrong Custer and The Little Bighorn.

3. I’m planning (some day) to write a book about Sitting Bull.

4. I have the loveliest husband in the world and his name is Gary.

5. My lovely hubby and I are the staff of our diabetic cat and her name is Widget.

6. My favourite band is Led Zeppelin.

7. The first book I read that I really loved was A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuinn.

My Favourite Band

There are some things in life that are important; like love, family and Led Zeppelin.  They are just my favourite band.  The trouble with Zep is, to my mind, they have the habit of making a lot of other music sound insipid.  I enclosed two photos to make sure that every member of the band was included as a lot of people seem to think that bands begin and end with the lead vocalist or they might just squeeze in the lead guitarist as well.  I think that it’s mean to treat the rhythm section (and arguably the most important part of the band) that way.

As with everything we all have our favourites, even within bands and much though I love Bonzo and J.P. and Rob, it is Jimmy who is my main man.  He and I have more in common than he probably knows.  We both can’t swim and don’t drive.  We both have Scorpio Rising and the Moon in Cancer and we’re both practising Occultists.  Of course, Jimmy’s bank balance is, unfortunately, a lot larger than mine but I’m working on that.

The Year of the Dragon

Today is Chinese New Year and it is now the Year of the Dragon.  Dragons are supposed to bring prosperity and success so let’s hope that’s true.  If you were born under the sign of the Dragon then you will be proud and clever but a bit of a show off.  Dragon’s have a lot of vitality and enthusiam (inner fire), they like to hang tough but they’re really very sentimental inside.

Quoting from my February edition of Prediction it says “Dragon years are packed full of dramatic activity making them exceptionally memorable.  Dragon years are believed to be the year of good fortune and luck.  Many will consider moving house, getting married, having their first baby or making some other significant life change at this time.  Tradition suggests it is also a good year to start a business.”
